This trailer produces a 650cu foot Mail trailer like those used by Royal Mail in the UK. These trailers were often seen alongside platforms in the 1970s and 1980s waiting for loading or unloading for mail trains. This version is based on a number of models including those used with the Ford RTW467W. These trailers would also have been seen around mail sorting offices and depots operated by Royal Mail.

The trailer consists of:

  • Trailer (wheels, bed, partial stand) - Black PLA (or painted Black)
  • Trailer Top - Red PLA (or painted Royal Mail Red)
  • Trailer Stand wheels - wheels for the trailer stand
  • Trailer Stand detail - detailing part to connect the trailer top to the stand
  • Trailer roof (red)

The pieces are designed to slot together to complete a trailer, which can be glued with PVA. To assemble:

  1. Apply a small amount of PVA glue to the inside edges of the roof
  2. Insert the roof into the top
  3. Apply a sensible amount of PVA glue to the top of the trailer
  4. Place the top with roof on top of the trailer (no weight should be necessary)
  5. Apply a small amount of PVA glue to the top of the stand wheels
  6. Place the stand wheels under the two prongs of the trailer
  7. The weight of the trailer and top should keep the stand wheels in place
  8. Once dry turn the completed model 90 degrees so it is resting on the rear doors
  9. Apply a small amount of PVA glue to the back of the stand detail
  10. Apply a small amount of PVA glue to the top of the tab (opposite end to the wheels)
  11. Place the stand detail so the legs make contact with the tab and the back rests against the trailer top
  12. Allow it to fully dry

This trailer is part of our new Mail series (033-xxx). The trailer can be used with additional trailer tops (half door - open and half-door closed) versions such as 033-001. Print all the parts except for the top. Print the half-door open or half-door close top versions from 033-001, and use them in place of the trailer top. This will allow you to create variations such as full doors or half door versions, and open/closed versions of the half door model.

  1. Trackside 3D Small Object Profile
  2. Enable Support Material
  3. Build Plate Adhesion should be brim (optional for smaller objects)
  4. Infill >= 60%
  5. Layer height should be 0.15mm or better (0.1mm recommended for small parts)
  6. Recommend printing trailer base upside down as shown

Tip:

Support material will be printed on the wheel hubs unless you dramatically change our support material settings. These will pull away with minimal force either by hand, with a small flat head modelling screwdriver or a small tweezers. Support material for the roof needs to be removed completely, this is easily done with a small craft knife and sanded down. The roof has a inset piece at the bottom that goes inside the trailer top for easy assembly.
